The Journey - Teaching with the Whole Brain in mind
After 27 years I still find things to be excited about in education. My latest journey is Whole Brain Teaching. I am curious, enthused, and yes a little bit nervous!

O.K. introduced the rules and gestures today. Most of my 3rd graders LOVED it but a few were a little uncomfortable or "too cool" to buy in...yet! They are super enthusiastic about the scoreboard and class yes. We will see what tomorrow brings. I did have a more positive upbeat day though!
Two more days in my week! Wow I like 3 day weeks!!!

Jumping in feet first!
Thank you Sandy! My school district has had the last two days off due to power outages in the area. Fortunately we were among the lucky at my house and didn't lose anything. I still filled my buckets with water though!
I love snow or "hurricane" days because I always seem to get SO much accomplished! In the past two days I have been a cleaning mad woman and furniture re-arranger! I am quite happy with the results and I finally have my home office back (empty nest not so bad!) My other project has been to totally immerse myself in WHOLE BRAIN TEACHING I have been eating, sleeping, dreaming whole brain teaching! I am ready to go into school tomorrow and introduce the rules and the score board.
I have an amazingly intelligent and interesting group of 3rd graders this year. They are cute, smart, absolutely hysterical, but...they NEVER stop talking. I feel like I am speaking to my teenagers all day long. They totally tune me out! It has been a frustrating few weeks and I have tried all of the tricks accumulated over 27 years TO NO AVAIL!!! I feel horrible and exhausted and mean and frustrated - you get the point. At parent conferences last week my heart broke when the parents of one of my cuties - super talkative cutie - told me that he thinks I hate him. I have to admit that I cried on the drive home. Those are words no teacher wants to hear!
All of this has brought me to my latest journey and with a teenie amount of trepidation (mostly about parental reaction) that I jump in tomorrow - feet first! Let's hope it's not a belly flop!
I would love love love to hear from any of you who are beginning to expert Whole Brain teachers!
Happy Wednesday!
:)
